Why 2Caffeinated?

We’re a site run by coffee lovers for coffee lovers. It really is that simple. So, if you’re part of that select band of people, you’re in the right place. Welcome!

You’re also in the right place if you’re interested in making the perfect mug of Joe and knowing where your coffee comes from.

Unlike other coffee sites, we aren’t affiliated with any company or brand. This means it’s our choice of bean, roast, and coffee maker you’re getting, not someone else’s. So, rest assured, you can trust our opinions. Yes, we really are unbiased!

You won’t get puffed up reviews here. You’ll only receive accurate information based on scientific studies, user trials, and stone-cold facts. We also talk to the experts out there, including the likes of professional baristas, industry experts, and coffee farmers. In other words, what you read is from the horse’s mouth.

Our contributors are coffee lovers, just like you. They love coffee, they’re ethical, honest about what they write, and they don’t pretend to know everything.

Here, at 2Caffeinated, we take our product recommendations really seriously. We won’t recommend a single machine, be it a drip coffee maker, espresso machine, or a grinder without researching it thoroughly first. Our mission is to tell you the truth about coffee equipment, beans, milk, and whatever other coffee-related topics we’re commenting on.

You can visit our site and find everything you’d ever want to know about what makes the perfect cup of Joe. Hopefully, you’ll pick up some new tips and tricks while you’re here!

We’ve reviewed espresso machines, including the automatic espresso maker, and explored which coffee pod machine comes out on top. If you’re more of a manual coffee making fan, then take a look at our honest thoughts about that.

If, before now, you’ve only drunk coffee because you need a caffeine hit, we’re here to tell you there’s way more to know and love! Here at 2Caffeinated, we believe that coffee is (and should be) more than just a cup of instant grains in the morning.

About the Founder

So who are we? Founded a few years ago by Violet Douglas, we want to bring 2Caffeinated content to coffee enthusiasts everywhere. Whether you’re an espresso fan or a Kenco coffee machine lover, you’ll find everything you need to make that perfect roast and much, much more.

Violet has loved coffee ever since her very first sip at the tender age of 16. Since then, she’s sampled coffee all around the world, from Brazil to Ethiopia and everywhere in between.

Her devotion to high-quality coffee prompted her to share her love with friends, family, and colleagues. Eventually, she decided to go that bit further and began doing some research of her own.

Where does it come from? What’s the difference between ethically sourced coffee and not? As a result of her efforts, she quickly became the “go-to” person whenever the subject of coffee, making it and drinking it, was concerned.

That’s quite a responsibility!

So, instead of keeping everything to herself, she decided to go public and set up this blog instead. However, just to be sure she wasn’t a lone voice, she chose to connect with a few other coffee-loving contributors. You’ll see throughout this blog that they’ve added their thoughts on the subject too.

Our Editorial Review Policy: How we Handle Product or Service Reviews

We take product recommendations very seriously around here. Before we recommend an alternative coffee, an espresso machine, drip coffee maker, anything — we do extensive research. That starts with researching the history and public reviews of each product or service, including accessing the right scientific studies, consulting experts in the space (coffee farmers, professional baristas, and coffee industry experts) and reading real people reviews and use cases of each product.

As much as possible, our writers and editorial team use and test each product in their real lives. We not only evaluate and discuss the benefits of each product, but we can then talk about the durability, performance and personal nuance, things you might not find in other reviews, but that really matters to our audience.

Every article goes through an extensive editorial process as well to ensure high-quality, relevant content for our audience. We make sure that each article has a clear purpose, gives a clear and tested recommendation, or call to action and is helpful for our audience. We make sure to cite outside sources and document where we got our research from.

Every article is unique, authentic, original content that is not published anywhere else. If we quote or source someone else, we cite it. We also only cite reputable, trusted sources.

If we are making a recommendation of any kind, it’s because we like, use, and have tested the product or service out and would recommend it to our friends and family (and often do!).

We update key articles continuously so we are always recommending the latest products and keeping abreast of the latest health breakthroughs and research available. We also take product recalls very seriously and strive to make sure we are recommending products that are proven, effective and safe.

Kieran Cunningham

Kieran Cunningham

Kieran James Cunningham is a connoisseur of all things caffeinated (and the occasional decaf, too…). His dedication to the pursuit of the best beans and an ideal cup of “brown” out there verges on fanatical and makes the efforts of Captain Ahab seem somewhat tame. As you read this profile, the chances are he’s sipping on a cup of something Sumatran and pondering whether to make the next one a Kona or Mayagüez.

Crystal Schwanke

Crystal Schwanke

Crystal Schwanke is completely obsessed with coffee and enjoys "traveling the world" with the help of the magical beans. She drags her family to every coffee shop she can squeeze into the trip when they travel and has an embarrassing amount of coffee-making gear vying for space in her kitchen.

Erin Jamieson

Erin Jamieson

Erin Jamieson holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Miami University of Ohio. Her writing has been published or is forthcoming in After the Pause, Into the Void, Flash Frontier, and Foliate Oak Literary, among others, and her fiction has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Erin has been a coffee lover for many years, and there's nothing she likes better than high-quality coffee with a layer of crema. She loves helping others find their very best cup.

Natalia Bickell

Natalia Bickell

Natalia is our head editor with a background in Creative Writing. Her love for coffee isn't just because it helps her wake up in the morning but inbred in her life and culture. Natalia, born in Costa Rica, has always loved trying different coffee brands and playing around with the flavors and tones that come from different coffee beans and brewing methods.

A Final Thought

We want to demonstrate our passion for coffee, the equipment that makes it, and the beans that create that fantastic flavor. By doing all this, we hope, in turn, to empower you, our fellow coffee lovers, to make that perfect cup of Java at home. The tools you use don’t have to cost the earth, they just have to be right for you.

We want to inspire and educate you to find, grind, roast, and brew fabulous tasting and smelling coffee in the comfort of your own kitchen. We publish the latest and most informative news about the coffee world so that you, our fellow coffee lovers, can make the best choices before you brew that perfect cup.
